Reading Recap: December

Despite festive busyness in the beginning of the month, and getting sick {I could not even look at a book the first several days}, I somehow managed to read a decent amount in December. Yay! I am also particularly happy to have finished everything that was in-progress … I don’t mind stranding a book from month to month, but it’s annoying to start a book in one year and finish in the next. I like things more tidy than that, ha. Read on for details on what I read and how it rated.

Titles & Star-Ratings (with format!):
📖 Of Dreams & Destiny (Sandhya Menon) ⭐⭐⭐
📖 Eight Dates and Nights (Betsy Aldredge) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
📖 So This is Christmas (Jenny Holiday) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
📖 The Mystery Guest (Nita Prose) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
📱 To Sir Phillip, with Love (Julia Quinn) ⭐⭐⭐
📱 A Court of Silver Flames (Sarah J Maas) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
📖 Three Holidays and a Wedding (U. Jalaluddin & M. Stapley) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

December was a bit of an eclectic mix – I did manage 3 more festive books {I still need to do a wrap-up post for My Christmas is Booked}, but I also picked up next books in series I’ve been working on. And I finally finished A Court of Silver Flames – the time it took to read that one is deceptive: I may have started it in {late} October, but I actually read it in 7-10 sittings. Now I anxiously await the next Crescent City book, so I can pick back up the story and all the crossing threads. {Then perhaps we do a reread of Throne of Glass... because why not?}

I did bail on another audiobook – the third/final book in a middle grades series I have previously enjoyed. While the events picked up immediately following the end of the second book, the tone was so very different. Some POVs even felt much more adult-geared. It’d been several years since the last book published, so maybe that distance played into it? Regardless, it wasn’t working for me at the time, so it was added to the DNF list.

On the whole, I’m very happy with my December reading – and my 2023 reading in general. I will probably do a wrap-up post on the year, and talk about some of my 2024 reading plans/goals – so keep an eye out for that.

With January fully upon us, it’s almost time to start seeds and begin the garden journey again! Yay! After a very bookish winter, there will be more non-book posts coming, I promise.
