And the rain came down…

It’s hurricane season in Carolina, and while we’re far enough inland to escape most storms that come up the coast, every now and then we get something. Today, we’re getting something. Debby is forecast to track right up the center of our county, which is … fun. Thankfully she’s not a monster, but she’s taking the leisurely route. Which means rain. A lot of rain.

After flirting with us for two days {heavy clouds and increased winds}, the storm arrived around midnight and boy howdy has it rained. You can see my rain gauge was nearly full by 8am – we quickly ran out to dump it {so we can start over} and pick up my overturned rose pots. Fortunately, we’re on a hill, so we don’t really have to worry about flooding.

Pistachio + German chocolate. Yum.

We did lose power for a little over an hour early this morning, but otherwise it’s just a very messy day. Perfect for staying inside and enjoying the best batch of cookies I think I’ve ever made, ha. And reading, it’s a day absolutely made for reading.

Once the storm has fully passed us by, we’ll go out and check on the garden and the rest of my flowers – from the house, it looks like the sunflowers may have taken the worst beating.

If you’re in the path of this slow-moving rain maker: stay safe, friends!

    • The cookies were so delicious – I’m going to have to try to recreate the magic soon! đŸ˜‰
I lost a few of the tallest sunflowers, they were just too tall to handle the wind and snapped in half. But the others, and my zinnias, came through remarkably well! đŸ˜€ Yay!
