Although 2025 is A Very Jane Year, and any time is a good time for Jane Austen, there is still something special about Summer Reading. Thus, in addition to general Jane-ish goodness, I am bringing back the Summer of Jane. The reading levels and ways to participate are the same – if you want to join in and read something Austenesque, just drop a comment and share. If you’d like to make a post, on a blog or Instagram, that’s even more fun – and definitely share the links/tag me!
I am keeping things very simple with my personal Summer of Jane TBR:
Since I’m participating in the Canterbury Classics year-long challenge, I know I will {finally} be reading Mansfield Park in July and a modern retelling in August. There is a lot of flexibility for August, but I have a number of modern retellings on my shelf, so it all works out.
Beyond those prompts … I will let the Austenesque spirit lead me. If I pick up something by Jane Austen, it may be Sanditon or Love and Friendship, something beyond the main 6 novels since they’re sprinkled throughout the year’s challenge prompts.
I’m still working my way through Austenesque adaptations, so there’s likely to be movie nights, and of course I’ll be sharing a list of upcoming releases I’ve got my eyes on.

Will you be dipping your toes into the Austenesque waters this summer?
I’m off to Bath in June, so I’m going to hopefully read a couple of retellings while hitting up the Austen Centre etc and checking out all the 250th events there.

Ooh I look forward to seeing all of your posts linked to this project 🥰 I also really hope you enjoyed Mansfield Park. I’m especially intrigued to see what upcoming releases you have your eye on too.
Given how crazy my TBR is I may join in, I may not. I did want to try and read Pride & Prejudice this year given the anniversary so I shall try to fit it in over the summer so I can count that at least 😂 I can’t see myself achieving higher than the Emma Woodhouse level but we’ll see. Maybe Pride & Prejudice will enthrall me so much that I go straight onto the others. And I may have some retellings that fit on my priority TBR, I’ll have to see 🤔
Anyway good luck with this and I look forward to seeing what you get up to for it.

I’ll be leaning heavy on the retellings and variations myself this summer 😉 Hopefully you’ll be able to squeeze Jane in this summer, and if not, at least you can live {read?} vicariously! 😀
ps: Upcoming releases post coming soon 😉

Fingers crossed we both manage to read Mansfield Park this summer! It’s a tough one … and yet a good friend of mine loves it best of all Jane’s novels 🙃
