Second batch of seeds

March brings the return of Spring, and means it’s time to start the next round of seeds! While our first seed starting day was a more organized affair {complete with Chick-fil-A lunch!}, our second round was … not. We had a busy weekend, spending Saturday working on bee-things, but found a quick moment Sunday afternoon to get things started.

Thankfully the second batch of seeds was a simpler collection: Parisian pickling cucumbers, delicious Italian squash, a little celery {for an experiment}, some lettuce, and Cherokee purple tomatoes that missed the cut before. We also direct-sowed our green beans {saved from last year!}, and some carrots and arugula.

While making soil blocks for the new seeds, we also decided to go ahead and up-plant the peppers. They look so cute tucked into their new bigger blocks! And it was so easy too – I am incredibly impressed with the soil blocking dibbles and the ability to swap them out.

My living room is looking more like a greenhouse every day, with the first tomatoes growing away. Soon it will be time to start hardening them off, so they’ll be ready to survive in the garden.

And in the time between when we started the seeds and this post is going up, we’re starting to see sprouts! I fully intend to harvest and eat cucumbers {and squash} this year, so I’m already making plans for ways to combat the squash bugs.

Garden feasting season is getting closer! Have you been getting things ready for the growing season? What’s your favorite vegetable to grow {and devour}?
