Glimpses of July

What a month July has been! It began with a sizzle: between the temperatures outside and my few days running a random high fever, things were cooking, ha. Thankfully I recovered in time for the rain to begin {on my birthday!}, and oh, but we’ve had such glorious rains this month! At the time of writing, we’ve had over 10 inches of rain! Huzzah! The garden is so much happier, and our grass has come back from the dead.

When I started thinking about this post, I wasn’t sure I’d have much to share – but once I started scrolling through my photos, I discovered more than I thought. {This is why I love doing these posts: it’s easy to forget details in the busy-ness of life, and this is a good look back}.

Sunflower season is upon us! Love all the colors that appear.

You might not be able to tell from the pictures, but these particular sunflowers are gutter-high. I’ve been amazed watching them grow and grow and grow.

There is something special about summer clouds.
With all the rain, it was only a matter of time before we saw a rainbow.
I love how low this one is, it looks like it’s in the garden!
Surprise carrot harvest!

Tomatoes are coming in! I love heirloom tomatoes, and the colors and shapes they bring to the table. Some of these found their way into a sandwich, others found their way into the canning pot. {Much more on this in a future post to come, but here’s what we did last year}.

This pretty lady has taken up residence in the tomatoes.
All the pollinators are still enjoying the zinnias. This bee was so tiny!

Blooms abound: from zinnias to the chocolate mint.

A breakfast date with a dear friend: these were the best pancakes I’ve had in a very, very long time.

My father-in-law got puppies! These cuties helped us pick blueberries one day.

There’s a new batch of baby cows, and this one has decided the best nap spots are outside the pasture and in our yard. I don’t mind though, because look how adorable that is!

Such was our July {plus so much rain}, and it was overall a good month. I’m looking forward to August, and the descent into fall that will be coming our way – the sun is already shifting, and sunsets are getting more glorious.

How was your July? What exciting plans do you have for the last remnants of Summer?

  1. I hope you had a wonderful birthday and I’m glad you got plenty of rain as I know you were hoping for it. I love sunflowers but have never grown them. They’re so beautiful to look at though and it’s amazing how tall they can become. Those puppies are adorable too 😍 as well as the baby cow. I hope you enjoy canning your tomatoes. I’ve never tried it. Although I have made several chutneys in the past

My highlights of the month were visiting Kensington Palace (I’ve wanted to go for years) and seeing Pretty Woman the musical. August is going to be quiet in comparison as far as I know.

I hope you have a wonderful month 💖

    • Thank you! I did have a wonderful birthday and the rain has been so glorious. I’m totally amazed by the sunflowers this year 🌻 Will be growing more in the future (they’re also super good pollen sources for bees leading into winter).

Visiting Kensington Palace sounds especially fun! 🤩

Here’s to good Augusts for both of us 🫶

  2. AHH THE SUNFLOWERS! ❤ The university I went to has a tradition where sunflowers are planted all along the entrance every graduation season, so I loved seeing these photos! ❤ Those pancakes look delicious too, definitely wish I had more energy to eat breakfast (I know, I’m weird for not liking breakfast)!

Hope is August is kind to you! <33

    • Oh I love that tradition! Sunflowers are so cheerful. The pancakes were so delicious, and a fun treat – I don’t usually eat breakfast either, so this was a special occasion, lol 😉

Hope we both have a good August! ❤
