Considering the wild start July had, the heat’s negative impact on my daily walks, and that the month ended with the return of the Olympics … I’m counting July’s reading a success. I finished 7, which is a fair amount, and left 3 stranded. {One of them I was so close to finishing, but I just couldn’t keep my eyes open – and I’m just about to find out if my whodunit hunch is right too!}. So what did I read in July? Keep scrolling to find out.

Titles & Star-Ratings (with format!):
🎧 Summer Romance (Annabel Monaghan) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
📱 Lies and Weddings (Kevin Kwan) ⭐⭐⭐
📱 Earls Trip (Jenny Holiday) ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2
📖 The Midnight Feast (Lucy Foley) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
📱 An Acquired Taste (Kelly Cain) ⭐⭐⭐
📖 The Perils of Lady Catherine De Bourgh (Claudia Gray) ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2
🎧 The Heiress (Rachel Hawkins) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 1/2
You’ll notice more ebooks in the mix, thanks to my birthday present from Mr. After reading on the Paperwhite for almost a month, I can say all the rave reviews are worth it: definitely a good upgrade, and I love that I can easily adjust the brightness and warmth of the screen for reading at night. {And yes, I’ve already swapped out/changed up my stickers a little bit – this is why we got the glittery clear case, to allow for adjustments as inspiration – or new stickers – arrives}.
All things considered, July was a really good reading month. I was somewhat disappointed in Lies and Weddings – it did not feel like the same caliber of read as Kwan’s previous books {which I have loved} – but even that was worth a solid 3-stars. I don’t want to talk too much about others, because some of them may appear as Mini Reviews in the nearish future.
So far as my reading agenda for August … Finish the 3 I’ve left hanging, and then – I’m not sure. I’ve got a handful of library loans out, and I want to get more Austenesque books read to try and make a better showing for Summer of Jane. The reading prompt for a new book club I’m part of is “adventure” so I need to figure out what angle I’m going to take with that – there are so many options. Got any suggestions?
What about you? What’s the best book you read in July? Or what book let you down? Anything you’re really excited to read in August?

The heat has been terrible! I try to do evening walks but haven’t been able to lol.

Yeah, I try and walk early in the morning and even that has been so miserable: it may be a teeny bit cooler but it’s waaaaay more humid, lol

It looks like you had a fantastic reading month and I hope you get to find out if your hunch is right for the book you’ve almost finished is right soon. I’ve heard such good things about The Heiress and really should check it out sometime. I’ve got a couple of books by Lucy Foley on my TBR too. I didn’t realise there were already three books in that Claudia Gray series. I remember the first book catching my eye but then forgot about it 🙈
I loved both The Nightshade Crown books and finally read Emily Wilde too which I adored. I didn’t read as much as I hoped but at least the majority of what I read was fantastic.

I was able to finish it yesterday, and yes: my hunch was correct 😀 Lucy Foley is really good – I’ve enjoyed almost everything I’ve read (The Paris Apartment was … very very dysfunctional). And I was pleasantly surprised by The Heiress, I’ve read a couple other Hawkins books but that one is the best.
Oh I love Emily Wilde! ❤ Quality reading is much better than quantity of reading, in my book. 🙂 Here's to good reading in August!

Ooh yay, well done on your good detective work. Is that dysfunctional in a way that makes it a good read or not? 😂
I’m glad you enjoyed it too 🥰 and yes that’s true.

Dysfunctional kinda disturbing but like a train wreck I just couldn’t stop reading? It’s not the best of her thrillers (honestly the Guest List is probably still my fav), and deals with some weird stuff 🫢 and yet I finished it 🤷🏻♀️😂

I’m kind of intrigued, kind of nervous 😂 I’ll probably check out Guest List first but if I enjoy her other books I may look into that one too out of curiosity 😂
