Glimpses of August

Y’all. I’ve got to be very transparent here: August was a rollercoaster. There was good news, and weird news, and more good news, and some not-so-great news. Both Mr.’s mom and my dad had major medical happenings, only one of which was planned in advance. My grandmother also had a post-procedure medical hiccup. There was a hurricane. All of which to say: this month, these glimpses of beauty and joy are even more significant.

While the garden itself is winding down {more on this in a post to come}, there are still quite a few wild things visiting us, as you can see. {Don’t forget you can click on each smaller image to see it full-size}.

The snapping turtle was a surprise: coming from the direction of the cow pasture, who knows what mischief he was up to, ha. And I’m particularly pleased with capturing the monarch in flight.

The changing season {or the weird weather?} has prompted the growth of many mushrooms, from the teeny-tiny ones found along our driveway to this fascinating stacked tree-dweller.

I’m savoring the blooms for as long as they last. Even though my sunflowers did not survive the hurricane, the zinnias are still showing off.

We’re also taking full advantage of the {sometimes} cooler weather to soak up as much outside time as we possibly can, whether it’s meals outside or spending time under trees.

There’s something wonderful about a road through the trees.
Finding a little wilderness and fresh air during a hospital visit.

As mentioned previously, sunsets have begun to reflect the approaching seasonal shift, and I am thoroughly enjoying the gloriousness.

I hope these pictures have brought a little joy to your life – I have definitely needed and appreciated every one of them this month. And hopefully, as September ushers in the “-ber” months, it also marks the beginning of a slower, calmer {cozier!} season. For all of us. ❤️

  1. I hope all your relatives are okay, given those medical goings ons. And I’m sorry to hear about the hurricane too. I love your pictures though and can’t believe a turtle wandered into your garden. I hope you have a wonderful September and get some more time to relax outside.

  2. Sorry to hear about the medical issues. So stressful and I hope everyone is on the road to recovery! I also hope this month is much better. I just love your photos – beautiful! Very idyllic and peaceful. I spy some zinnias in your photos. My zinnias were doing very well and then the finches found them! Also, I love the picture of the road through the trees.
