Reading Recap: August

As mentioned previously, August was a wild ride. With that in mind, I am pleased with the reading I managed. The new Paperwhite continues to impress, coming in very handy a couple nights when sleep was playing keep-away. So what did I finish in August? Let’s break it down!

Titles & Star-Ratings (with format!):
📖 A Governess’s Guide to Passion and Peril (Manda Collins) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 1/2
🎧 Savor It (Tarah DeWitt) ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2
📱 Morbidly Yours (Ivy Fairbanks) ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2
📱 Murder in Highbury (Vanessa Kelly) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
🎧 Pride (Ibi Zoboi) ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2
📖 Listen for the Lie (Amy Tintera) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 1/2
📱 Put Out to Pasture (Amanda Flower) ⭐⭐⭐

I was absolutely giddy when Vanessa Kelly reached out and offered a NetGalley widget of Murder in Highbury. It has been one of my most anticipated releases for the fall, and of course I devoured this read. So good. {Mini review coming in my Summer of Jane wrap up post}.

Not included in the listing above are the 2 books I left stranded to carry over into September {one of them was so close!}; as well as an audiobook I bailed on about 1/3 of the way through. {I may revisit that one in the future, possibly in a different format}. And I had the immense privilege of story-reading a manuscript for a friend, and it was such an engrossing story, y’all. So all in all, a surprisingly packed reading month!

With the “-Ber Months” officially underway, I’m feeling my reading inclinations shifting a bit … I want cozy reads to match the cozy season. I’m thinking Stars Hollow vibes and a healthy dose of atmospheric fantasy. {We’ve also started our rewatch of Rings of Power: Season One to allow Season Two episodes to accumulate before viewing. This could be strongly influencing the fantasy urge}.

Should I make an official Fall Reading list? Maybe round up my potentials, the ones catching my eye, without making a set plan? I am also already working on this year’s My Christmas is Booked: expect that announcement post later this month. Lots of exciting reading ahead!

What did you read in August? Will you be reading cozy books now, or are you holding on to summer-y reads for as long as the heat endures?

  1. Looks like you read some great books last month. I read whatever catches my interest all year round, and average about a book a week. I read some incredible books last month, my favorites being The Memory Keeper’s Daughter and The Keeper of Lost Things. I don’t want to be obnoxious, so if it seems that way, please disregard, lol. But I have a new Christian Romance coming out this month. (You can watch the trailer on my blog) If you enjoy that genre, I’d love to send you the ARC in exchange for an honest review. No pressure though and no hard feelings if you’d rather not 🙂

  2. Congratulations on a fantastic reading month and on getting sent a widget for your most anticipated book, how exciting. That’s amazing about the manuscript too. Sounds like a busy month indeed. I don’t really do much seasonal reading but cosy fantasy is a genre that I want to pick up more in general so some may well end up read by me during Autumn too. I’ll keep an eye out for your TBR, if you do decide to make one.

    • It was a very exciting reading month for sure! 📚 I’ve done more seasonal reading the last year or two than ever before, and it’s been fun – but I also give myself a lot of flexibility for mood picks 😉 I think I’m gonna have to make an official compilation/loose TBR – I keep seeing books I want to read *now* haha

    • I read the first Amanda Flower book when it first came out, and then forgot about the series. 😛 haha … At least now that means I can have a mini binge to play catch-up! 🙂

  3. A great month of reading! I also read Listen for the Lie last month and it was so much fun. I enjoyed the true crime podcast part of the story. I look forward to hearing more about your fall reads and My Christmas is Booked. Believe it or not, I just started reading holiday books a few years ago –they are so much fun!

    • I don’t think that I’d ever read holiday books (other than collecting picture books) until I was at the library, and kept seeing people check them out every year. I finally tried them and loved them! So much fun! 🙂
