Reading Recap: September

As mentioned previously, September took a turn or two, and that’s reflected in my month’s reading as well. I honestly thought I’d read a lot more, but I hit a weird semi-slump… there’s a ton of books I want to read {some I’ve listed and still more that I haven’t, ha}, but I’ve had a hard time landing on the right book to read in the moment. Hopefully October will be better in that regard. Meanwhile, keep reading to see what did get finished in September! {Believe it or not, I’d picked the misty blue mountains background at the beginning of the year, and it’s extra fitting now}.

Titles & Star-Ratings (with format!):
📖 Elizabeth of East Hampton (Audrey Bellezza & Emily Harding) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 1/2
🎧 Apprentice to the Villain (Hannah Nicole Maehrer) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
📖 I Need You to Read This (Jessa Maxwell) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
📱 This Fatal Kiss (Alicia Jasinska) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
📖 The Frame-Up (Gwenda Bond) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
🎧 Everyone in My Family has Killed Someone (Benjamin Stevenson) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

At least I really enjoyed what I did read, even if it wasn’t as much as I hoped/expected. Quality over quantity is never a bad thing. When the month ended, I did have 2 books left unfinished {a print and an ebook}, so they’ll likely be finished soon to give October a boost. And I’m going to start dipping into festive book offerings, which should help the slump a little too.

What did you read in September? What’s on your must-read radar for October?

  1. I haven’t read a single book on your September list, lol. I read some great books last month, my favorites being My Name Is Venus Black by Heather Lloyd and How To Read A Book by Monica Wood. It’s all about the characters for me and the ones in these books will stay with me for awhile. As for October, I am planning to read a bunch of Christmas stories and whatever else on my book shelf “calls to me.” 🙂 I have such a lovely TBR pile that I rarely plan my month’s reads ahead. 🙂

    • Both of those are great titles! I always love seeing month reviews, and what people read that’s the same or different from my reading 🙂
Yes! Christmas stories forever! And I also have a tremendous TBR that makes “planning” rather tricky at times 🙃
Here’s to good reads in October!

  2. Although you didn’t read as much as you hoped I’m glad you really enjoyed what you got to. I’m most intrigued by This Fatal Kiss but I’m pretty sure I have at least one Jessa Maxwell book on my TBR too. I just googled her to check & it’s The Golden Spoon 😂

My September reading didn’t go too wonderfully. I think I got disheartened by a few books that I didn’t enjoy as much as I expected to. But my first book of October was fantastic so here’s hoping for a better month.

I hope you have a wonderful October & stay safe 🥰

    • The Golden Spoon was so much fun! I’m a huge GBBO fan, so adding the mystery element to the idea was totally my catnip and I loved it. I hope you enjoy it when you get to it! 🙂 And This Fatal Kiss was a bit of an unusual read, in that it was hard to place it anywhere chronologically, but it reminded me a lot of Katherine Arden’s Winternight trilogy {which I loved}, so that was nice.

Here’s to fabulous October reading for us both, along with sunshine-y golden fall days! And lots of lovely {safe!} adventures 🥰

      • Ooh I haven’t really heard from anyone whose read it so that’s wonderful to hear. I generally enjoy the show too, although there’s always at least one contestant who annoys me 🙈 ah right, it’ll be interesting to see how I find it then. The Winternight comparison is lovely though as I adored those books when I finally read them earlier this year.

        🥰🥰

  3. I really want to read Elizabeth of East Hampton. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it. Looks like my kind of summer read! I hope October brings some good books for us both. I am trying to read some more “witchy” reads this month, but I really want to dive into holiday books only because if I wait too long, there’s no way I’ll get through them all by the holidays.

    • It was really a lot of fun! I’m very excited to see where this series continues, because I’m finding the modernizations to be 👌
Here’s to fabulous reading for us both! ❤

  4. I agree that substance over quantity is a good thing! I’m glad you enjoyed your reads in September and This Fatal Kiss sounds great! I hope your reads in October deliver!! Here’s what I read in September. And October has been a weird month, I wanted to get into some spooky reads but I haven’t managed yet! Some library borrows ran out of time so I kind of just didn’t even try 🤷🏽‍♀️.

      • Haha yeah October is tough for reading & blogging just because it’s so wildly busy lol. Yes, so true! I second that, I wish you many good books in your not too distant future 😉!
