If you saw the Fall & Folklore post, you know that we decided to test goldenrod’s prediction abilities, re: the first frost. At that time, counting 6 weeks out from the bloom, it looked like the week of Halloween would be our first frost.
Y’all, I hate to break it to you, but the goldenrod missed.
This morning, after a near-miss yesterday, we have a frost! It’s patchy and light, but as you can see, it is without doubt a frost. {It is also cold, brr!}.

We were thinking back, and there was a run of goldenrod that bloomed a little earlier. {I’m not sure if it was just ahead of the game, or if there’s a whole other kind at play}. It was nowhere near the abundance of blooms, but next year we’ll keep an eye out and mark when that first flush happens. It’s possible the goldenrod was right all along and we just missed catching it.
These last two nights have been cold, and it’ll be interesting to see if the frost was enough to knock back the late zinnias and end the pepper season. We’ve also got – believe it or not – a few volunteer green beans that are blooming!
Have you had frost yet?
We had a frost warning here in PA too and they zapped the last of my zinnias and some of my begonias. Goodbye, summer! 😦 At least my mums are still thriving. Looks like yours are still hanging in there!

I’m proud of them! These were a test run of a new variety, and also way later than I’ve ever started seeds, but I’ve been impressed 🙂

This morning was our third frost of fall. I have to remember to give myself time to let the car run before work so I can see more than a 6″ square out my windshield, lol.

Oh I do not miss those frosty windshields! When we got married, I was able to park under an awning/carport for the first time and it makes such a huge difference in the windshield icing! Granted, the hood of my little SUV was a little bit frosty looking this morning, lol

One prediction was wrong but it’ll be interesting to see if the other snow based one is correct. We haven’t had a frost yet, although it’s been cold at times. Yesterday was surprisingly sunny and I got too hot at one point. Today it’s pouring rain which is probably what winter here will be 🙄 but I guess I’ll have to wait and see.

Yeah, the snow prediction is the one we’re all eagerly anticipating, haha
