Cozy Christmas

In years past, I’ve been known to start decorating for Christmas on Halloween. The last couple years have been more unpredictable: our first Christmas married, I didn’t manage to put up a tree until December 23rd. {It’s much harder to do while still unpacking moving boxes, ha}. The next year, the tree went up on Black Friday. Last year I ended up succumbing to *that virus* days after getting the solar lights put up outside and lights strung on my little tree inside … and that was all she wrote. {I actually left the solar lights up all year: they bring me great joy and cost nothing to leave up}.

This year … decorating happened in phases, and I kept things very simple. Cozy. By focusing on sweet and cozy vibes, I won’t have to scramble to undecorate as much, and can even leave some things up for a touch of whimsy and color all winter.

I decided to use our little Norfolk Island pine as our tree this year – I had another string of the warm LED twinkle lights I used on the bookshelves, and they are so cute I’m likely to leave them up. Originally I was going to string some tiny jingle bells into a garland, but then I found these leftover shatterproof balls and popped them on: adorable.

This is staying up all winter – actually, the snowflakes have been up for … maybe years? The felt ball garlands usually go on the skinny Alpine tree(s), but they’re way too heavy for the Norfolk Island pine, and I was trying to find a way to use them. There was a moment of giddy excitement when I realized I could loop them on the windows, and it turned out so very cute. Definitely leaving these up throughout the winter, and can’t wait to see how cute it looks with snow on the ground.

Of course my bookshelves and mini plant jungles had to be decorated as well! I didn’t go all-out, but did take advantage of some of the cute seasonal items in my collection – things that worked well with the overall aesthetic of the bookshelves. And I thought the tiny ceramic Nativity was too precious in the midst of the violets.

And of course I had to update the Kindle to reflect the season. Absolutely loving the ability to swap out stickers to match my whim and vibes, and how fun are these Christmas stickers?

Our little house may be minimal cozy Christmas this year, but my mom’s is a genuine Christmas Wonderland, for the benefit of my niece who is nearly 3, and it is the best thing ever to watch her excitement. Even the cats like hanging out with the Christmas tree {though River looks like he’d rather not share the chair}.

Have you gone all-out for Christmas? Or are you also taking a more understated approach this year? What is your favorite, must-have-it decoration for the festive season?

  1. Love the decorations! We had our decorations up early this year. We put them up on Halloween. I didn’t do a blog post about them. I did a while back. We have more Christmas decorations than that post.

  2. Lovely decorations, I really love the little pine tree, how cute 😍 all the little ornaments dotted about are so sweet too. I do the same thing with my bookshelf, partially because the little hanging bears I got are too heavy for our tree 😂 I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

  3. Love all of your cozy decorations and its smart to do a more of a “winter” theme because it takes me DAYS to get all the Christmas decorations down and I am always grumpy b/c I feel like I just put them up! I hope you have a wonderful holiday!

    • Thank you! ❤ When I told Mr I was going to go "cozy winter" instead of full-on Christmas, so I could leave more of it up longer, he was fine with it so on I went 😀 haha … I've actually got some cute wooden snowflakes I may pull out and replace the more Christmassy elements on the shelves with … hmm … Hope you have a fabulous holiday as well! 😀 ❤
