Reading Recap: December

In keeping with the slower pace of winter days, and the general wackiness of a holiday season schedule, my December’s reading was on the low side … but it was also on the good side. I managed to finish all my in-progress reads before the year was out {barely; that last book was finished with 5 minutes to spare}, which is immensely satisfying. All the year-in-review lookback posts are forthcoming, so this is just December.

Titles & Star-Ratings (with format!):
📱 Christmas at Sugar Plum Manor (Roseanna M White) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
📖 We Three Queens (Rhys Bowen) ⭐⭐⭐
📱 The Pumpkin Spice Cafe (Laurie Gilmore) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
📖 The Holiday Honeymoon Switch (Julia McKay) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
🎧 The First Ladies (Marie Benedict & Victoria Christopher Murray) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
📱 Christmas with the Queen (Hazel Gaynor & Heather Webb) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was a month of quality over quantity, and that’s a-okay with me. I was slightly let down by the latest Royal Spyness installment – it was still a decent read, but not my favorite in the series. It did end up being a nice “bookend” to my final book of the year: Christmas with the Queen {mini review forthcoming in My Christmas is Booked Wrap-up}, since We Three Queens ended with the Wallis Simpson-driven abdication that changed the trajectory of the monarchy.

All in all, a decent month of reading – especially considering everything else that December holds. How did your December turn out: did you read more or less during the festive season?

  1. Quality over quantity is always a good thing (even if I do consistency want to read more). It looks like you read some lovely books with some fitting cosy vibes for the season. I’ve seen the Pumpkin Spice Cafe one around a lot. I love how many festive ones you managed to fit in again too. I’ll read more about them all on your wrap up in a minute. Well done on reading a fair amount during such a busy month. I read three books but with one being an early copy of Emily Wilde, one within my top three books of the year and another a fantasy Asian inspired fantasy I can’t really complain.

    • I know, I am always torn – because I do like reading *a lot* – but I’d rather be reading good books I really enjoy than just knocking them out to say I did … but yeah, definitely cozy vibes 😀 Your three books read were definitely a win!

      • Yes same here. And seeing how much some people read in comparison at times really seems to add to the pressure. But it does make sense to take them at your own pace and truly enjoy them more (it’s just hard when you’re also aware of how much you want to catch up on).
