This isn’t snow…

After spending the week preparing for a substantial winter storm, I was delighted to be able to curl up and watch it snow yesterday afternoon … Until it transitioned to a sleet mix around dark. And transitioned again to freezing rain during the night. We did wake up to a winter wonderland this morning, just not the hoped for variety. After fortifying ourselves with some coffee, we bundled up for a quick walkabout to size up the situation. It is beautiful, but it is also very cold.

So far, I’d have to say the folklore is holding true: after our surprise snow in December, we’ve been well below normal temperatures for over a month {when I say cold, I mean cold, y’all}. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen every grass blade {and pine needle} so ice-coated … Since our wildest winter weather doesn’t usually happen until February and sometimes March, depending on how unpredictable things want to be {one year we had 8 inches of snow on a Monday, and by Saturday it was 65* and I was at the Zoo without a jacket}, we may be in for some more cold adventures!

Thankfully our power has stayed on, and we’re hunkered down cozy. This storm system was massive, and I hope if you found yourself in the path you are also safe and staying warm. It’s the perfect weekend for hearty soups, extra cups of coffee, and nibbling cookies while reading.

  1. I’m glad you are safe and warm on the farm 🙂 We got a foot of snow and then ice on top of that. Not fun. I have icicles from the roof almost to the ground and the weight of the ice tore my gutter off 😦 I’ve had to work most every day this week but tomorrow… coffee and a book. I’ve always kind of embraced the winter but this year, not so much lol.

    • Oh my goodness! Nobody wants/needs ice on top of snow! Those sound like impressive icicles – but yikes to pulling the gutter off 😦 I hope you’re able to thoroughly enjoy a hibernation day: stay warm and cozy, and enjoy the book and coffee ❤

  2. All of the frost and icicles look very pretty but I’m sorry you didn’t get the true snow that you were hoping for. Hopefully it’ll happen soon 🤞 one of the few times we got snow we had that frozen rain on top of it and the animals hated it (they really didn’t trust the crunching sound when they walked on it). It was very unusual.

    • It was pretty 🙂 3 inches! I’m jealous, haha … I’m afraid we’re going to be in for some of that cold rain the end of this week – with a turn to even colder temps … Good thing I’ve got lots of books?
