Spring, again

Friends, a strange and wonderful thing has happened. I went to bed last night during Winter and woke up this morning to Spring. The moment of Spring Equinox was at 5:01am EDT this morning, and we are officially getting this new season underway!

With the conclusion of Winter, I thought I’d give a final check-in on the folklore predictions I posted about previously.

Our first frost was a smidge earlier than anticipated, however we did miss the exact first bloom of the goldenrod too. We will of course have to do another round of testing, but I’m willing to say that one worked.

The persimmon seeds predicted a cold and snowy year, and the accuracy of this one kind of depends how particular you want to be, ha. We had an early snow in December to get things started, and then there were several light snows with adorably perfect snowflakes, and even an icy event. Was it measurable or truly significant snow? No. Not really. But it was more than we’ve seen in several years.

And the cold? The cold we definitely experienced. From a stretch of 8 days with highs in the 30s to several days when the high never even reached 30, it was a very cold Winter.

Now we’re in Spring … We’ve got about another month of frost potential, and the world is still slowly greening and blooming, so it’s not all warmth and sunshine yet. But we made it through Winter, and the cycle continues. I for one find that incredibly reassuring and hope-giving.

Are you starting to see signs of Spring?

  1. I agree that the snow one is kind of hard to call. If promised snow I’d want a blanket of it. But then it’s still more than you usually get so at least that’s something. It’ll be interesting to see what happens if you test it out, as well as the goldenrod, again this year. I hope you have a wonderful spring 🥰
