Book blanket progress

I’ve decided to do quarterly-ish update posts to show off my progress crocheting my reads. I am continuing to photograph all the physical books I read, as well the audio and e-book squares I am particularly pleased by. With that in mind, here’s a peek at what I’ve made since the first post.

Only 3 months in, and this project has been so fun. I love the process of making the squares. Figuring out the best colors and placement to represent the book. Growing more confident in my crocheting abilities. Knowing that at the end of the year, I am going to have the most unique blanket. And there’s something about taking the time to create a visual representation of the book I’ve just finished that feels … complete. Maybe it’s my own version of “mindfulness,” or simply that I get to linger in that bookish world a little longer. It’s a nice moment.

I’ve started adding the single-crochet border around the squares, weaving in the ends, and bundling them by month, to keep things organized and streamlined. {That dark turquoise is even better than I thought, and is the perfect blender for the extreme variations in square colors}. I can’t wait to see what covers will show up in the months to come!

    • Thank you! And yes, truly, a book blanket can never truly be finished, haha … This one I am at least limiting myself to only what I read in 2025, so that’ll help 😉

  1. This project is going so well and you’re even weaving in your ends as you go? Wow that’s definitely organized, I love it! The Sense and Sensibility, Murder at the Breakers, and Earl Crush are my fav squares from this update though I think I’d love a whole blanket of The Creme Brule Bake-Off squares! 🙂

  2. This is looking fantastic so far. I can’t wait to see the end result. It’s also made me want to try and do one of these projects one day, although I’ll have to get on and get the hang of crotchet first 😂 I always think granny square projects look lovely though and coming up with a way to combine it with reading is fantastic. I’m still struggling to pick favourite squares though, they all look lovely 😍

    • Thank you! ❤ I definitely consider myself an amateur crocheter for sure, but granny squares aren't so bad – just take a little getting used to. They make up really fast though, which is nice 😉

      • Well I think you’re doing fantastically and I can’t wait to see more 😍 I’ll have to try and get the hang of them myself by the end of the year. It’s definitely a skill I want to have 😅

  3. Wow! This is such a cool and creative idea. I’m really impressed by your talent – I can make regular blankets but ask me to crochet a granny square and I’m unable to do it. So I’m obviously a little jealous of your skill, and a little bit in awe of the reserves of yarn that you must have!

  4. […] Now that we’re into July, it’s time for another peek at the progress I’m making on my book cover crochet blanket. Obviously these updates don’t show every square I’ve made {at the time of posting, I’ve read 44/100 books for the year}, just the ones I’m either super proud of and/or have a physical copy of the book. You can see previous updates here and here. […]
