Glimpses of June

In spite of an incredible heat wave, June had some dazzling moments of beauty to offer. The skies have been showing off, almost as if they’re as ready for Fall as I am! I’ve already shared some chicken pictures and a garden video, so I don’t overwhelm you with those updates in this post. {There is so much change happening in the garden, we may have to have two tours in July!}

This rainbow was actually the end of May, but since I’d already made my Glimpses post, it got to wait until the June pictorial recap. I think it gets better with time.

The sunsets have been beautiful – not every night, but more frequently than we usually see in the Summer. Maybe it’s the atmosphere/haze from the heat, or maybe the seasons are wanting to shift early. Whatever the reason, they definitely bring joy and beauty.

The bumble bees love the calendula as much as I do.

We managed a quick getaway, which was a lovely and much needed adventure – complete with unexpected plan changes following the wildest storm I’ve ever seen. The mountains were calling, and so we went … Into the heart of one, to be exact. In truth, it was so good to see those familiar blue ridges again. We also saw the scars from Helene – it’s one thing to know it happened, and to have seen the footage, but driving past bare hillsides and washed-out bridges, seeing where the landscape has changed and empty houses in the river bottoms … the devastation was real, and it hurts to see. But there’s hope too, and the stubborn determination to rebuild and carry on.

Mountain lakes will always be my favorite.

Many people have been to the mountains, but have you ever been in a mountain? I visited the Caverns when I was much younger, but Mr. had never been, and it was on our agenda for the trip-that-wasn’t last year. Thankfully we were able to venture inside this time-around.

The photos cannot truly capture the color and feel of these formations.

Already dreaming of the next trip to the mountains … they’re always calling, and I must go.

Fun little thrift haul:
went for baskets, everything else was bonus.
Spoon tomatoes are here!
Still waiting on *sandwich* tomatoes however.

I hope your June has been lovely, and you’re staying safe and cool!
May you find joy and beauty even in the hottest season.

Where is your favorite weekend getaway?

  1. Such gorgeous pictures. Even though I am melting most days from the intense heat, views like this make summer worth it.

I don’t know if I’ve ever been “in” a mountain. I’ve driven through mountain tunnels before, but don’t know if I’ve ever properly been inside a cave.

I LOVE your thrifted finds. Those mugs are absolutely adorable and I am sure a cup of something warm and delicious will taste even better than normal with something so cute in your hands.

    • Yeah, if it has to be hot as heck, at least it’s pretty!

When I saw the mugs I was like “no way are those staying here!” 😂 They looked brand new too, so double win. Ready for a nice hot tea I think… when it cools off a little bit 🥵

  2. (This might be a duplicate comment — if so, apologies!)

Gorgeous photos! I love the mountains too, so much.

And I am jealous of your tomatoes! We have a decent amount of fruit but nothing is near ripe.

    • Team Mountains forever! 😀 ❤ hehe

Our first big/"sandwich" tomato is finally showing enough color that we're considering pulling it to let it finish ripening inside (away from buggies). But these tiny spoons have been SO DELICIOUS! Nothing tastes like a fresh tomato 🙂

  3. It looks like you’ve had a fantastic month. I love the colours of the sunsets and clouds. The mountain trip sounds lovely too (besides seeing the after effects of the storm which must be harrowing to see in real life). I’ve been in caves before but I don’t know if any were inside a mountain 🤔 inside I know they can be stunning though. It looks like you had a great thrift haul. I’ve been doing the same online, first with special edition books then puzzles 😂 discovering Vinted did more than clothes could be bad for me…

Also that sandwich tomato is massive!!

I hope you have a wonderful July. I’m not sure what favourite weekend getaway would be. Probably a picturesque town like Wells with old architecture. Although I’d love to spend a few days in London to see the attractions I haven’t managed to yet.

    • The sky-colors have been so, so good. Not what I usually expect to see in Summer, but I’ll take it! 😀

Wait til you see the size of the sandwich tomatoes now! There are some truly gigantic ones out there slooooowly turning … I am drooling in anticipation! 😉

We do love historical-themed adventures, so a pretty town with old architecture sounds lovely 🙂

      • It’s the climates way of apologising for the stickiness I suppose 😅

Oh wow I can’t wait to see more updates then!! We had cherry tomatoes once but the dog picked them for herself before they turned ripe 😂🙈

Those kinds of days out can be so much fun.
