My Christmas is Booked: Year Three

I know Fall only arrived this week, and yes, I have a growing stack of fallish books I want to read. However! This year’s new holiday books have started publishing, and that means it’s time to start thinking “festive reading.” If you’re new here {welcome!}, this will be the third year of my blog feature My Christmas is Booked. I tweak it a little every year, but I’m so excited to share and spotlight the festive reads catching my eye.

Creating an official TBR was a little tricky this year! There are always more books published than I’m able to read, thus creating a backlist backlog. I’m going to try balancing the reading this year, and have a “priority new releases” TBR as well as a “these books are living on my shelf” TBR.

High Priority New Releases
Read My Own Shelves

I will likely add “bonus” books as we go along – I know of one reread that will be happening, ahead of an upcoming Hallmark release. And I’m sure there will be impulse reads as well.

As in years past, October is when I start adding holiday reads into the mix. Starting early lets me balance the holiday and “regular” reading better, so the stories don’t run together too much. It also makes the lengthy TBR less intimidating, to be spread over multiple months.

Have you started thinking about festive reading, or are you waiting?
Do we have any overlapping TBR titles?
Is there a holiday book you are super excited about that I missed?

  1. Hi Rebecca 🙂 I’d love it if you’d consider adding my novella, Chester’s Miracle, to your Holiday reading list! It’s only 120 pages and could be read in just a couple of sittings.

A Christmas blizzard. A rescued dog. And the love she never saw coming. It’s all part of Chester’s Miracle…

    It releases November 1 🙂

  2. I am wondering if I should start my holiday reads early, too as so many are releasing soon! I also want to read Jenny Colgan’s newest and Jenny Bayliss. I look forward to all your holiday reviews!

    • I know why they release the new books so early, but also why?! LOL … October feels like a good time to start slowly mixing them in – though I know I’ll be devouring both Jenny’s books as soon as I can get my paws on them 😀

  3. I love this! Such a fun approach to the seasons and something to really look forward to. I don’t tend to reason holiday books, but this might be the impetus I need to try this year! It sounds very festive and cozy. I don’t love romance books, so maybe I can be on the lookout for some interesting nonfiction Christmas reading as well. Things like books about hygge or the history of various traditions? Some Christmas cookbooks? Now you really have me thinking!

    • We are all about festive and cozy here 🙂 Not sure how you feel about “Christmas with a side of murder,” but there are definitely those options out there too. And of course, lots of great nonfiction – and ooooh, Christmas cookbooks! That’s a whole other pile of delights 😀 I hope you find yourself with some festive reading this year, and can’t wait to see what direction you go! ❤

  4. Its too early for me to really start thinking about festive reading but I do hope to get to a couple that I failed to pick up last year and have my eye on The Twelve Days Of Christmas new release wise. Other than that I dont know much of what’s coming out festive wise but I’m sure I’ll discover lots of titles through your page.

I hope you enjoy all of these and look forward to seeing what you think of them all.

    • I don’t remember starting quite this early, until working in the library and realizing how early holiday books publish. {I also told myself that reading them as soon as they came out meant the public could have them closer to actual holiday time, hehe}. Oooh, The Stokes-Chapman one? I confess, I googled 😉 That cover is gorgeous and I’m intrigued!

      • It is surprising that they seem to come out around September 🤔 and that is a very good argument to use to pick them up sooner 😂 yea that’s the one, I loved The Shadow Key by her so I’m eager to try more of her writing. And as you said the covers divine 😍 I accidentally found another new to me holiday title the other day too – From Helsinki with Love

  5. Your Christmas picks look like fun! And I will definitely check out mjeanpike’s novella. I love novellas! I would love it if people wrote more novellas. I usually read one or two Christmas-themed books, but I haven’t looked for any yet this year. Thanks for the recommendations!

    • Novellas are fun! 🙂 I feel like they’re starting to show up a little more frequently, which is nice especially for holiday books, because it’s like a quick taste. There are so many good looking festive reads coming out this year, I may have to do another post of the ones I didn’t call out here! 🙂

  6. Ooooookay…. Christmas. Books. My very favorite things combined into one! I’m not really into romances but Murder on the Christmas Express went immediately onto my TBR. Do I have to wait till December??? (No. No I do not.) Thanks for the rec!

Btw I’m popping over after seeing the link on Elisabeth’s blog post today!

    • Thanks for coming by! 😀 Yay for Christmas books! And no, you definitely do not have to wait until December! I’m trying so hard to “be good” and wait until Wednesday or Thursday to start, lol … I enjoyed the author’s The Christmas Murder Game several years ago, so looking forward to seeing what she does with the Christmas Express.
