In case you missed it, Elisabeth has been hosting a month-long walking club on her blog. The idea is to walk {or move} 10 minutes a day. Rather than daily or weekly updates, I decided to do a midmonth check-in and a final wrap-up. So that’s what we’ve got today.
October 17th: An hour-long morning walk, with a Christmas audiobook.
October 18th: Waking up with a sinus headache changed all the weekend plans, but by the end of the day I was able to get some solar therapy helping to water-in the freshly sown cover crop.
October 19th: Sunday tends to be a rest day, and the wind was absolutely and literally howling, but we did manage to fill a few more growbags.
October 20th: This morning’s walk was a little crispy! The trees are starting to turn, across the road, and the sky was the flawless blue of only October.
October 21st: Not quite an hour, but there’s definitely a crispness to the air! The sun is shining full throttle, but you can feel the difference in its light/heat. Hello, you glorious Fall.
October 22nd: An hour with nothing in my ears, except the crickets announcing the weather changing … and the breeze making the dying weeds rattle … the sound of {I hope} a bunny slipping through the grass as I walked by … Sometimes you need the quiet.
October 23rd: I finished an audiobook and caught up on A Jane Austen Year podcast, while laughing at the crow walking up the driveway in front of me. He was so startled when he realized someone was behind him.
October 24th: After a night of not much sleep, I opted for a gentle day. Managed a 30-minute walk, a thorough watering of all the things, and a trip to the Library to pick up holds.
October 25th: Saturday’s exercise involved planting saffron bulbs and reinstalling the border edging of one of the flower beds in front of the house. Also de-leafing the chicken fence.
October 26th: Sundays are generally quiet, rest days. Though after a quick run into Tractor Supply, I am now dreaming up Christmas decorating plans. Also: why is the 6-foot tall rooster so expensive?
October 27th: The weather changed: chilly, rainy and windy, so I opted against a walk. I did end up getting movement chasing off a hawk that tried to steal Pepper! Thankfully he dropped her and other than a few missing tail feathers, nothing a cuddle and some extra “superworms” couldn’t fix. Steps continued to add up as I went to the window every 10 minutes to check on the chickens.
October 28th: It was cold and the wind was howling. I did track down my snapdragon sproutlings, where the insane wind blew their soil block planters away, and that’s got to count for something.
October 29th: While the weather is preventing formal walks so far this week, I definitely got some steps in walking back and forth from the house to the chicken fence to the building and back again. Spoiler alert: multiple days of very soggy and grey weather will drain a solar battery.
October 30th: The sun finally, sort of, returned and I was able to return to a regular walk!
October 31st: A very crispy morning walk to end the month.

It’s been lovely watching the leaves change every day.

This has been such a fun way to track movement and steps during the month of October, and I have thoroughly enjoyed Elisabeth’s weekly updates and seeing all the other walkers.
Have you ever participated in a walking club or challenge?
Do you walk regularly?
Thanks so much for joining! I loved seeing your photos, though wish you hadn’t had to CHASE OFF A HAWK! Poor Pepper!

It’s been so much fun! Minus the hawk … that was quite the traumatizing Monday for sure!

It was my first time, but it was really fun! I liked knowing that even though it was “just my normal walk” there were others walking too 🙂

I used to walk regularly (2012 – 2022), but then after my transplant I started having issues with my feet, and these days I’m stuck in a brace or boot. I’m about to start physical therapy, though. I really miss it, because I used to hike as well.

Oh man, that would be hard. Hopefully the physical therapy will help and you’ll be able to get more walking/hiking! 🙂

Thanks! I’m not always the most consistent, but it does make me feel so much better and stronger when I do 🙂
