We interrupt today’s scheduled programming with a surprise news bulletin: It snowed!
Yesterday was a brutally cold day, with howling winds and falling temperatures, and all the meteorologists said there was a slight chance we could see a flurry or two overnight as the final line moved through the area. It certainly felt and even smelled like snow last night, but when we went to bed: nothing had been seen.
Fast forward to this morning, when Mr opened the blinds and found snow! In early November!! In North Carolina!!! {Yes, this news does call for that many exclamation points}. I braved the cold for a few quick photos, before following the chickens’ lead and getting back inside the warm house.

While Popcorn decided to survey the strange cold world, the other 4 stayed in the coop until much later than normal. They’ve got the right idea: it’s a good day to snuggle in hibernation mode!
It may have only been a dusting, but it was enough snow to stick and that counts. We just had our first frost the weekend of Nov 1st/2nd {right on time according to the goldenrod}, and we’re already seeing snow? If this is a taste of the Winter to come … I need more blankets.
It never snows where I live but I would love to visit a place where it snows. Love the pics especially that lantern.

We don’t get a lot usually, but last Winter we got several dustings and if yesterday is any indication … I would love to one day go somewhere where there’s “big snow” – just to see it and experience it for once.
And thanks! I am smitten with the lantern: part of my new outdoor Christmas decorations from the farm store, lol 😀

Shudder. I am so, so glad we haven’t had any snow yet. That said, I can almost guarantee I’ll have a much colder winter than you will and I will be eyeing your photos with deep jealousy mid-January when we’re buried under 5 feet of snow.

I am sure you will be colder than me, but how wild that we got snow first!? I’ve never had tons and tons of snow {I do remember one freak year we got 20 inches at once}, so I am easily excited 😀

Hmm! My husband and I have a five year plan to get out of Florida- not sure where we’re going yet, but North Carolina is on our radar. I’m wondering just how cold and snowy it gets! I’ll have to follow along your blog this winter and find out.
Btw I really enjoyed Murder on the Christmas Express- I’m talking about it on the blog soon!

North Carolina weather is extremely variable 😂 Depending on which part of the state you live in mostly, but also in general. We’ve had all four seasons in a span of 7-8 days before, so you really never know 😂 Meanwhile, we’re in the central part of NC, and while we get a winter, we don’t usually see a ton of snow – and certainly not this early! We will both be following along this winter to see what’s going on! 🙂
Yay for enjoying Murder on the Christmas Express! Can’t wait to read your thoughts, and hoping to dive into my ASAP. Some library holds came in, and I get slightly distracted 😉

I think I’ll also read your previous blog posts to see if there is snow every year where you live.
I’m not sure what you mean by “winter has moved into Autumn’s territory”, though. Do you mean that snow has moved into a day in which meteorologists said there would be almost no snow?

We get sprinkles and flurries but not usually big snows. And certainly not this early in the year!
I just meant that since it is still fully Autumn/Winter doesn’t start until mid-December and yet it came and dumped snow on us. 🙂

We are in Pennsylvania and were surprised by snow this week too! It has to be more surprising in North Carolina though! Even in a more rural area.

Yeah, we have never had snow this early – that I can remember. If this is a foretelling of what is to come this winter … brr!

Yeah – we might be in cold trouble too this year.

Ooh have you had anymore snow since this? It’ll be interesting to see what the chickens make of it if you get a layer on the ground. Although maybe they’ll just stay in their cosy home like most did this time around 😅 we hardly ever get snow and this year its actually generally been warmer than usual too. Ive actually gotten too hot with my winter duvet a few times.

No more snow yet, but we have had a couple COLD days – like brutal cold, with windchills in the low single digits. Thankfully I think the chickies came through it okay? They apparently have very high body temperatures + wearing down coats = stay very toasty so long as they can stay dry.
I am very curious what they will do when/if we get a big snow…
