Bookmarked: January

This year I am continuing month-in-review Bookmarked posts, including what I’m listening to and watching, but I am taking the reading recap back to basics. I want the flexibility to feature and/or spotlight specific books without feeling like I’m repeating myself, and this will streamline these monthly wrap-ups a little better as well.

📱 Wild for Austen | Devoney Looser | ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2
📖 Anne of Avenue A | Audrey Bellezza & Emily Harding | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
🎧 The Night We Lost Him | Laura Dave | ⭐⭐⭐⭐
📱 Planning on Christmas | Geeta Schrayter | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
📖 From Cradle to Grave | Rhys Bowen | ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2
🎧 Lost and Lassoed | Lyla Sage | ⭐⭐⭐⭐
📖 Finding Her Edge | Jennifer Iacopelli | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 1/2

It was a varied month of reading, that somehow managed to include 2 retellings of Persuasion! I was not expecting Finding Her Edge to be a Persuasion retelling, but that was a happy surprise. Having read the book, I can now watch the Netflix series. Responses on social media have been making me giggle, because if you know the story of Persuasion, you know which guy is going to get the girl. {Sorry if that’s spoilerish for anyone, but it was clear to me from Chapter 1 how this was going to end.} The journey was a lot of fun though, and I look forward to watching.

Listening:
The ridiculous cold that moved in for January severely limited my walking, which means the listening aspect of things took place predominately inside. While crocheting.

Watching:
You would think I’d be watching a lot, with the cold and Winter fully settled in place. Surprisingly, not as much as expected. That said, I do have several things on my “To Watch” list, not the least of which being the Winter Olympics.

  • 📺 Baked with Love | Hallmark+
I didn’t quite finish this one before the end of the year, but it was nice to carry the festive baking over into January.
  • 📺 Great British Baking Show | Netflix
Continuing my rewatch, this time featuring 2018 and 2019. It’s comforting and cozy.
  • 📺 Vikings: Valhalla (Season 3) | Netflix
We binged this during Winter Storm Fern, and that was a wild ride.

On the Blog:
January is always a busy month looking back and wrapping things up. I extended My Christmas is Booked through the full 12 Days of Christmas, and read more festive books this time than ever. My official year-in-review covered both blog stats and achievements and a look at my reading habits. With the year officially concluded, and all the book cover crochet squares made, it was time for one final teaser. {I’m joining everything, and I can’t wait to share the finished product!}

It’s the time of year for new things as well, perfect for my Word of the Year. I’m trying new things with my reading, like this cute little TBR jar. Not to mention a whole new post “series” for the blog! I am so excited about Tea Time, and there may be a few other ideas percolating away as well.

As the world’s cutest library sign shows my reading growing book by book, the pile of crocheted “books” for this year’s blanket also grows. January was the wildest ride to start a new year, but we’ve made it to February and we made it.

How did your January reading go?
Are you doing anything new or different with your reading this year?
What are you most excited for in February?

    • “Cosy anything” – yes!! I am definitely feeling all the cozy vibes/yearnings. Loving 3 out of 11 books is pretty good in my book! 🙂
I hope you have a fabulous week and all your books and shows are delightful and cozy ❤

  2. That Jane title sounds interesting!

My GF does like 95% of her reading via audiobook while she’s quilting or crocheting. (She’s a good quilter, too: she gave me a personalized one for my birthday last year and I haven’t needed much else since in terms of warmth.)

    • The Jane book was interesting, but not quite what I was expecting. (Or maybe it’s been too long since I read that kind of NF book?) Regardless: very thoroughly researched, as the last 20% was endnotes!

Oh how lovely! Personalized quilts are such a labor of love 🙂 And quilting is also a good way to rack up the audiobook time; it’s something I can do, but it takes me a very, very long time, haha

  3. Ooh I spy two five star reads, how wonderful 🥰 I really want to try Lyra Sage’s books sometime too so seeing a four star there is promising too. It looks like your reading year got off to a wonderful start.

Im glad youre continuing to crotchet and enjoyed some more cooking shows 🥰

Obviously im glad you got through the storms too and finally got some snow like you hoped for.

Im most excited for my first Robin Hobb book (started last night & already loving it) and Agnes Aubert. Although I may not get to the latter straight away as I want a special edition 😂 I hope you have a wonderful month 🥰

    • This one was the best of the Lyla Sage books so far, although some of the language around *romantic interactions* was still very cringe-y. But I loved Gus and Teddy, they felt the most realistic of all the couples so far. 🙂

Yessss! Agnes Aubert! 😀 Very excited about that one, although like you: may not get to it right away. But that one is high up on the TBR/wishlist for sure!

Here’s to a delightful month for us both! ❤

      • Ah that’s worrying about the cringe factor but hopefully I’ll get on okay with her books. Especially now that I’m prepared for it and that there’s a strong couple further down the line.

Hopefully we’ll both love it as much as we’re expecting to 🤞 it definitely sounds utterly delightful.

        Yes here’s hoping 🥰
