The FJIG Collective, Week 4

I can’t believe February is already over and this is the last week of FJIG moments. If you’ve missed the previous FJIG Collective posts, you can find them here: Week 1, Week 2, and Week 3. I love that this has been such a community event, and am so grateful that Elisabeth has played hostess for us. She and her blog are definitely FJIGs!

February 22nd: A long hot shower when the weather change gives you a migraine.
February 23rd: One of my best friends had a baby, and “Aunt Becca” got to spend some quality time catching up with mommy while cuddling baby.
February 24th: Hopefully the last morning having to swap ice for water for the chickens, since the fancy insulated waterer Mr got me for Christmas finally arrived!
Bonus FJIG: This blog turned 3! My first post was about garden work, so we’re on schedule.
February 25th: Bread making day: They weren’t the prettiest loaves I’ve made, but I love knowing exactly what is in the bread and that it’s super healthy {fresh milled wheat}.
February 26th: Another very rainy day meant crochet time: all the book cover squares are together and ready for the border. I cannot wait to share the final results – it has turned out so fun.
February 27th: Friday Pizza Night: Homemade. Last year I found the best pizza dough recipe, and I’ve been slowly transitioning it into a fresh milled flour recipe. So delicious, and better for us than Domino’s {of which we eat our fair share, because it is also delicious}.
February 28th: The sun finally came out, and I was able to catch up on some chicken chores. Namely, cleaning the coop/box. Thankfully it wasn’t as terrible as anticipated. Also got the Omelet waterer set up, and spent some quality time hanging with the flock.

The chickens are not sure about it, but I am excited!
This insulated waterer will keep water from freezing in winter, and keep it cooler in the summer.
All Pecan ever wants is to be on me, so I flipped the bucket over and sat.
He stayed on my leg for about 20 minutes, until I set him down to continue my day.

This month-long “project” has been such a good mental reset during this time of year. When you’re in limbo between Winter and Spring, and the weather is twenty kinds of chaotic, it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind. Plus, can you believe the difference that missing 2 days can make on a month? Like, seriously. February is struggling, y’all, and she wants her extra days! I joke, but also: 28 days feels so much faster and wilder and unfinished than 30/31.

Have you been looking for JOY and finding all the things you have to be grateful for?
Will you keep doing this throughout the year, or wait until the next community collective? I think I’m going to try and keep it going – even if it won’t be an every day listing to share, but still intentionally finding things to be thankful for and, as ever, that spark JOY and give BEAUTY.

  1. Congratulations on three years of blogging 🥰🥰 it seems to fly by. Its lovely hearing how well the crochet is continuing to go and new baby cuddles are always lovely. Auntie status definitely comes with some perks ❤️ the water insulator sounds like a great investment. The homemade bread sounds lovely and I’m impressed that you managed to find a silver lining to the migraine. Hope you have a wonderful March.

    • Thank you! I can’t believe it’s been 3 years already! 😀 Auntie status is the best 🥰🥰🥰 And ohmigoodness, I am so excited about this insulated waterer! Not only will it keep it from freezing, but it’ll keep it cooler in the summer heat too. 😀 Just gotta keep working on getting them to figure out how to use it, lol

      • It really is 🥰🥰 although time does seem to fly by.

I’m sure they’ll get used to it soon enough. Our dog was scared of the new sofas when we got them (they recline and she wasnt impressed). Now she curls up on it every night to watch TV 😂

  2. Yes, I think a lot of us want to keep the FIGS going- not of course asking Elisabeth to organize it because that is a HUGE JOB for her. But we can keep noticing the things that bring us joy, and post about them!

I SOOOO want to try your homemade pizza dough, with freshly milled flour??? That sounds amazing. I also want to come over and have Pecan sit on my lap : )

    • Freshly milled flour has been such a revelation! It’s delicious and actually nutritious!. I’m going to test the pizza dough recipe with 100% fresh milled flour and see how it works (versus half), and then I’ll probably make a post 🙂

Pecan is such a sweetie, although sometimes his insistence on being held/on me does get in the way 😂 He also likes to fix my hair, when my braid starts unraveling 😂
