After the excitement of February’s “opening day” of Garden Season 2026, things settled into another waiting period while the days stretched longer and slowly – sometimes – warmed. March finds us getting busier, and garden plans starting to solidify.
In early March, we had a very exciting round of seed-starting: tomatoes! With our garden expansion, we have more room for tomatoes this year, so we decided to try growing 8 varieties. The 5 varieties we grew last year + 3 new ones! I have been watching the sprouts grow, eagerly anticipating those first delicious tomatoes.
This past weekend, we had another busy day in the garden. It was time to plant green beans and potatoes; and the cabbages, kale and broccoli were ready to be transplanted as well.

until they adjust to the wind tunnel we call home.
As if that wasn’t excitement enough, another round of seed-starting took place. Even though we won’t set them out until late April or so, it’s time to get the cucumbers and squash started.
I am so excited to see these pink calendula blooms.
If you’re curious how our early plantings are doing, I am happy to report they’re all looking good. The peas got slightly frost-nipped, but I think they’ll grow out of it, and the onions said the cold never bothered them. Peppers take forever to grow, which is why we start them so early, but they are finally starting to put out the second set of leaves.
In addition to all the delicious things we are planning and planting, I’ve got so many big plans for beautiful things to grow this summer, so be on the watch for a Flower Farming update post soon.

Yay! ❤ Vine ripened definitely makes the biggest difference in how a tomato tastes! My favorite? Depends on how I'm eating it – for a sandwich, I love a big slice or two of a meaty-but-juicy pineapple tomato. The little spoon tomatoes though are so absolutely perfect for salads/pasta salad/etc. 😀

I absolutely have spring fever. Lol. I want all the flowers and fresh food right now. Wyatt and I planted way more tomatoes than we can actually plant, and 3 different kinds. I am thinking I will just give the extras away near our little free library. I love a tomato sandwich in the summer. Just thinking about it makes my mouth happy.

Oh yeah. We will definitely have extra tomato plants when the time comes to plant them outside… we usually sprinkle the extras among family 😂 love the idea of putting them with the little free library! Yay tomatoes! 🍅

Wow it sounds like you’ve been busy. Eight different tomato varieties is loads. It’ll be interesting to see which turn out to be your favourites. I agree those beans are a lovely colour and I’m glad everything that you’ve planted previously seems to be doing well.
I havent tried anywhere near as many tomato varieties as you so I’ll go with baby plum 😂 hopefully doing some planting this weekend 🤞 although in my case it will be flowers.
