Glimpses of June

June has been a busy month, between the garden, the flowers, and the chickens {an update on them is coming soon!}. But there have also been skies that demanded to be seen, and flowers that make my heart sing. And food, oh my goodness, the food. As we indulge in our warm season favorites, I anticipate many more recipe posts in the near future. Scroll on for some glimmers of JOY and BEAUTY from the month.

The first of the baby cows was born! Such a little cutie.
Such amazing skies this month, but still not enough rain.
Zinnias and sunsets … they just work.
Corn tassels: maybe, just maybe, we will get corn.
A pair of herons flew over one evening.
The calendula is turning slightly pinker!
The $5 violets at Lowe’s Hardware fit perfectly in CRV cupholders,
in case anyone needed to know that tidbit of information.
Appleblossom Snapdragons.
Definitely growing these again!
Yes, I do still find eggs in places they don’t belong …
Farmer’s market tomatoes, marinated and savored.
We made pesto again, and can confirm:
It is excellent with grilled chicken!
Tacos for Mr’s birthday: as delicious as they were beautiful.

There’s a heat dome building this week, to start July off with a sizzle. If you’re also under the dome, I hope you are able to stay cool – and safe! Seems like a good time to play catch-up on my TBR … Especially if we get some much-needed rain.

  1. Love this post, Rebecca. Your photos have captured all that is lovely about June. I look forward to the recipes, particularly interesting things to do with zucchini and summer squash, lol. We are sizzling hot in SE Ohio this week…

      Unfortunately I'm not much help with zucchini recipes: ever since we fed it to my brother's pet iguana (like, 30 years ago), I don't eat it. That stuff is lizard food! 🤣🤣🤣

  6. What a wonderful bunch of photos! I’m especially in love with the cow & calf. They’re beautiful! Our calves are getting so big, but they’re still cuties. I had to laugh at your reply above about zucchini being lizard food! Zucchini is about the only thing I could ever grow successfully when I had a garden!

    • The little calf is so pretty – such a unique color! They’ve moved them again to the far pasture, but I hear there are 2 more babies arrived, so when next they come to my side, there’ll be more 😀 I love watching the littles.

      Zucchini is one that a lot of people grow, and I guess everyone else eats? LOL! Maybe one day I’ll get brave, but for now … lizard food 😉

I love seeing all of your pictures 🥰 the flowers and sky snaps are gorgeous, especially that purply one 😍😍 I can also definitely see why you plan to grow Appleblossom Snapdragons again, how gorgeous 😍 the baby cow is adorable and it looks like you’ve had some lovely meals too. I hope the heat dome doesnt stick around for too long 🤞 and that you get the rain you need. Im doing a bit in the garden a bit later today when its had a chance to cool down a bit. I’ve got two new dahlias I want to plant since the slugs got to my last one. So heres hoping I can avoid a repeat experience 🤞

    • Aren’t those snapdragons just the best? 😍😍😍 My first/real planting died over the winter, and I had a small amount of seed leftover so I was like “eh, I’ll try it…” and I honestly thought the starts had died. Then all of a sudden they started growing, and now they are so dreamy 😍 I’ve got another set of seeds ordered and will be adjusting my start time a bit this year to give them a better chance at overwintering 😉

      I’ve been told there are now 4 baby cows! It’s too hot and snake-y to walk over to their other pasture to look, so I’m waiting for them to move back next door 😀

      Dahlias are so gorgeous – I want to grow some of those one day too. Fingers crossed the slugs stay away this time! 🤞🤞🤞

      • Im glad you didnt give up on them as theyre gorgeous. Its great when something manages to unexpectedly thrive and surprise you like that.

        Aww thats adorable but yes I don’t think I’d risk a snake-y walk either.

        Im sure whenever you do you’ll have better luck than me 😂 if they do start damaging them again I’ll move them to pots as the few I have in those are doing much better. But I really want a few in the flowerbeds too
