Book Blanket 2025

After a year’s worth of reading and creating Granny squares, then doing the math to make a functional blanket and joining all the squares together, Book Blanket 2025 is officially finished. And I am so very pleased with the way it turned out!

On one of the update posts last year, Jean mentioned how neat it would be to see all the book covers laid out to compare with the blanket and, drumroll please, I managed to make that happen. Since book covers are rectangles and I made squares, at first the visuals seem mismatched, but you should be able to get a general idea of how the covers translated into crochet. {As always with image galleries, you can click on the individual image to see them full-size.}

Because I am so in love with the way this turned out, here are a handful of detail shots showing off some of my favorites. And for the curious, I can identify most of the squares accurately, but I do have to stop and think {or even consult my own social media} about some of them.

The colors worked together surprisingly well, for it to be such a random process. The dark turquoise border really helped bring everything into a cohesive blanket, which is what I hoped. I can also confirm that it is the perfect size and weight for reading on the couch.

As mentioned, my Book Blanket 2026 is going to be something completely different. In another month or so, when I’ve got more examples to play with, I may try and share a “teaser” for what I see in my head. Until then, I’m already brainstorming my next crochet project(s) …

  1. I was so excited when I saw the title of this post in my email I had to rush right over and have a look 🙂 The blanket is beautiful and a lovely representation of your last year’s reading! I would love to make something like this but I can only do the basic single crochet. I made some prayer squares for my ladies Bible study this month. The one I used as a model had crosses in the center made from a bobble stitch. I watched several tutorials on you tube but just could not catch on, lol. You did an amazing job with your blanket and I’m excited to see what you come up with for this year’s book blanket 🙂

  2. Wow, Rebecca, this is so amazing! I love your book blanket so much! It’s great that you got the photos of the book covers and the squares, and I can absolutely tell that they go together. I love how the dark turquoise border brings it all together – plus that’s one of my favorite colors. I can just imagine you snuggled under this blanket reading a good book!
