Summer is for reading

It’s no secret that I read all the time, no matter the season. But there’s something special about Summer Reading, and not just because I’m in the midst of my third Summer of Jane. A lot of times we think of “Summer reads” as beach-oriented, or maybe a lake – some body of water we can escape to. And that is 100% an accurate definition, but it might not be the only definition. Sometimes a Summer read is a wild thriller that keeps us guessing. Sometimes it’s an Arctic expedition that gives us a mental escape from the heat and humidity. Or an adventure on the high seas. Or maybe it’s slipping into any number of fantasy realms, taking a break from the everyday for flying on dragons. The point is: Summer reading means something different for all of us, and that is the beauty of books in a nutshell!

In addition to my Austenesque reading, I’ve got a growing list of titles I’d love to get to this Summer. Instead of calling this a TBR, I think I’ll call it my Summer Reading Wishlist.

The level of excitement surrounding Sarah Dessen’s new book … I’m not sure I know how to explain what this means. In college and beyond, it wasn’t Summer until Sarah’s new book published and was read. Then she took a writing break {and I do not fault her at all}. But this year? We got a new book. And it’s a beautiful one. Very much looking forward to diving into this one.

Carley Fortune and Ashley Poston’s new books are also gorgeous, and I’ve got high hopes.

In case you were somehow unaware, July 4th will be America’s 250th birthday! My history degree says I need to indulge in a little patriotic reading, so I’m going to start with a mix of biographical fiction and nonfiction about our First Ladies.

These nonfiction titles have been lingering on my TBR, so this Summer seems like a good time to try and work them into the mix as well.

And because I can’t help myself when I start pulling titles … still more picks from the TBR that I’m going to prioritize this Summer.

Is this Summer Wishlist extremely random? Yes. Am I excited about every book included? Also yes. Will I manage to read every book on this list? That remains to be seen, but is at least half the fun!

Have you made a specific TBR, or “Wishlist,” for the Summer?
What kind of books do you like to read during the Summer?
