Tea Time 004: Fall at last

I know we’re not supposed to wish our life away, and I do try to live in and enjoy the moment/season I am in. But I’ve been waiting for Fall to return for a long time. Summer had its share of wonderful moments, as well as entirely too much sweat, but the ‘Ber months have come back around and Fall officially begins at 8:05 EDT tonight. {Sidenote: Has anyone else ever tried standing eggs on their end at the moment of equinox? I remember doing it as a kid, and I’m contemplating trying tonight…}

Fall decorations
After having little ceramic bunnies on my table throughout Spring and Summer, I decided it was time to update the centerpiece decorations. I wanted woodland, autumnal, hobbity goodness. The brown acorns I discovered at Hobby Lobby, and they helped set the tone. When I saw a local potter post teaser pictures of this year’s batch of acorns, I knew I needed to make a visit. Once there, a pumpkin and fluffy-tailed hen also found their way into my bag. Throw in some drippy beeswax candles and we’ve got ourselves a quirky cozy aesthetic. And since it’s “generic Fall” and not holiday specific, this can remain until I get the urge to deck the halls for Christmas.

Flowers, always
I will keep flowers in the house as long as possible! A local florist pulls birthdays at random to receive a free bouquet, and mine was finally picked! I’m also enjoying the zinnias while I can, because it won’t be long and the largest patch will have to come out to make way for the Spring 2027 pansy crop. And how gorgeous is that goldenrod tucked into the bunch?

Spider thoughts, without a picture
Spider season is in full swing, and I’ve gotten a face full of spiderweb more than once. Including in the chicken fence. There was even a spider with a very impressive web inside the nesting box. She’s gone now, I’m sure as a Penguin snack, but she was there for quite a while. Strangely though, we don’t have as many writing spiders as we did last year – which is sad, because they’re so striking.

Peppers, peppers, peppers
The Summer garden has pretty much died off, but the peppers are still thriving. They are definitely not nadapeños anymore {always a risk when saving seed, since peppers cross very easily}, but they taste great. The bigger size makes them perfect for stuffing/making jalapeño poppers as well. A few have gone buggy, and when I offered them to the chickens, the H Class loved them!

Did someone say “fancy drink”?
We have created the most delicious and refreshing mocktail recipe for a “fancy fun drink,” featuring lime juice, lemonade, and cherry juice. {Also lovely with a splash of tea added}. As the days get shorter, and the seasons change, it feels like the right time to start mixing in fun treats.

  1. I love your decorations and flower bouquets! I have just a few pumpkin-y things I put out for fall. I don’t decorate for Halloween, unless you count the multitude of spiders in my house as halloween decorations, lol. Happy Fall!

  2. Your post made me smile! I am also one to embrace the season. It suddenly felt like fall here at the beginning of September and with the shorter days I decorated early. Flowers, a plush gnome in rusts and gold with a Fall banner, ceramic pumpkins, battery operated votives, candles under the candle warmer and wallflowers infusing my favourite scent. I love that I live somewhere with seasons. Wishing you lots of joy this fall season!

    • Living in a place with all 4 seasons is definitely a blessing! 😀 After getting some teasing hints on the wind, it finally feels like Fall today: 58-60* and breezy and wet. I’m in a sweatshirt and soaking up the cozy 😀 Your decorations sound so fun too! I keep battery-powered candles and fairy lights out year-round, but I definitely use them more during the hibernation season. I hope you have the most fabulous Fall! ❤

  4. Im glad you’re so happy for falls arrival. I think its probably my favourite season as I love the changing colours and pumpkin spice. Right now we’re back in a mini heatwave again here though.

    I’ve never heard of the eggs thing but I’m guessing its some kind of folklore or tradition?

    All of your decorations and flowers look lovely. I especially like the pumpkin and have been tempted to get something similiar for my room. The birthday bouquet giveaway is such a lovely idea too.

    I hadn’t heard of a writing spider before and having now googled them I’d personally be grateful of their reduced numbers 😂 I can see what you mean about them being striking but the colour just makes my brain go ‘venemous’. Plus some on Google were hand size and thats a big no for me spider wise.

    Your drink looks and sounds lovely too.

    • Ugh to the mini heatwaves … they just don’t want to let go! It finally feels like Fall today: only 58-60* and breezy and wet. I’m loving the change of pace, but the chickens are a little grumpy, LOL! 🙃 Hopefully your Fall temps come soon!

      The egg thing must be a regional folklore, but I totally tried it again last night – and it worked 😀 hehe

      I actually don’t mind writing spiders, even when they’ve gotten very large, because they mostly stay in one spot. So you can easily avoid them in the future 😉 Any other spider needs to stay much smaller, LOL!

      • Honestly until the start of September we seemed to be in one continous one 🙈 this one is nowhere near as intense though, just unexpected as the weather seemed to be on the turn then backtracked. I’m glad you’re loving the change in weather where you are. I’m sorry to hear that the wet has left the chickens a little grumpy though.

        Glad to hear it worked 🥰 and it could well be. Some folklore is pretty specific to certain areas.

        I just looked and we don’t get them here anyway. I don’t like fast movers either. And I especially hate when their overhead. The idea of them landing on my head really makes me nervous 🙈

  6. I’m like you, and have been ready for fall for awhile! And here it is! I love your fall decorations. I have general fall decorations for now. A few little pumpkins, pillows, wall hangings, magnets on the fridge, a vase of fake orange and yellow flowers. Closer to Halloween, I have some cute things, but not too much. Your bouquets are so beautiful! Lucky you to win the bouquet!

    We haven’t had a change of seasons here yet, but festival season has started in India so that’s a lot of fun , as long as you’re not stuck in traffic hahah

  9. I am soooooooo excited about fall too!! Yay!! I switched out my rabbits as well, and put out foxes and squirrels. Lol. We decorate for fall and Halloween. Usually we start with fall then add Halloween, but this year we just went nuts and put Halloween up with our fall stuff.

    That mocktail sounds delicious!

    • I love that we both had rabbits! 😀 I wanted some cute foxes or hedgehogs, to continue the animal theme, but I haven’t seen any I liked yet … the squirrels at Hobby Lobby were particularly strange looking 😂 Sometimes you just have to put out all the holiday stuff early 🙂 It’s science 😉

  10. I’ve never heard of standing an egg at the equinox, that’s interesting, what’s the meaning behind that? You’ve just reminded me I need to decorate my house as well, I meant to do it in September but it completely passed me by! Your assorted acorns are so beautiful! oh wow your birthday flowers are so pretty (what a cool idea that the florist does that btw!) I love iced tea so your lemonade/cherry/tea concoction sounds amazing.

    • I’m not sure if there is any real significance behind it or not – the “theory” is that the gravitational pull during the equinox is what allows the egg to stand on end. Whether there’s any real science to it or not, it’s still fun 😉 LOL

      I was very impressed with the bouquet, and it’s such a great way for the florist to build a local following. It’s also such a cool shop: I’d not actually been in there myself before, and want to go back and explore 😀

      I hope you get your house decorated! 🙂 It’s so fun seeing the acorns whenever I walk by.
