I know we’re not supposed to wish our life away, and I do try to live in and enjoy the moment/season I am in. But I’ve been waiting for Fall to return for a long time. Summer had its share of wonderful moments, as well as entirely too much sweat, but the ‘Ber months have come back around and Fall officially begins at 8:05 EDT tonight. {Sidenote: Has anyone else ever tried standing eggs on their end at the moment of equinox? I remember doing it as a kid, and I’m contemplating trying tonight…}

Fall decorations
After having little ceramic bunnies on my table throughout Spring and Summer, I decided it was time to update the centerpiece decorations. I wanted woodland, autumnal, hobbity goodness. The brown acorns I discovered at Hobby Lobby, and they helped set the tone. When I saw a local potter post teaser pictures of this year’s batch of acorns, I knew I needed to make a visit. Once there, a pumpkin and fluffy-tailed hen also found their way into my bag. Throw in some drippy beeswax candles and we’ve got ourselves a quirky cozy aesthetic. And since it’s “generic Fall” and not holiday specific, this can remain until I get the urge to deck the halls for Christmas.

Flowers, always
I will keep flowers in the house as long as possible! A local florist pulls birthdays at random to receive a free bouquet, and mine was finally picked! I’m also enjoying the zinnias while I can, because it won’t be long and the largest patch will have to come out to make way for the Spring 2027 pansy crop. And how gorgeous is that goldenrod tucked into the bunch?

Spider thoughts, without a picture
Spider season is in full swing, and I’ve gotten a face full of spiderweb more than once. Including in the chicken fence. There was even a spider with a very impressive web inside the nesting box. She’s gone now, I’m sure as a Penguin snack, but she was there for quite a while. Strangely though, we don’t have as many writing spiders as we did last year – which is sad, because they’re so striking.

Peppers, peppers, peppers
The Summer garden has pretty much died off, but the peppers are still thriving. They are definitely not nadapeños anymore {always a risk when saving seed, since peppers cross very easily}, but they taste great. The bigger size makes them perfect for stuffing/making jalapeño poppers as well. A few have gone buggy, and when I offered them to the chickens, the H Class loved them!

Did someone say “fancy drink”?
We have created the most delicious and refreshing mocktail recipe for a “fancy fun drink,” featuring lime juice, lemonade, and cherry juice. {Also lovely with a splash of tea added}. As the days get shorter, and the seasons change, it feels like the right time to start mixing in fun treats.
