Bookmarked: February

Believe it or not, but 2 months of the year are already in the books! To be a short month, it was fairly busy, and as Spring moves in and the growing season takes off, it’ll only get busier. As we dive into what I read, listened to, and watched in February, I have to laugh: Apparently the accidental theme of February was “books with blue covers.”

I’m a little impressed that I finished 7 books in February {the same as January}, considering the short month + Olympics. Of course, The Heir Apparent was a carryover from December, when I was literally 2 chapters short of finishing before my Libby loan expired. It still counts as a book finished, I just didn’t add it to my pages/hours read tally. There weren’t as many stars given, but none of the reads were a struggle or dubious. For example: I did not love Anne of a Different Island as much as I wanted to, but it was still a fun read. Some months are just better than others, and there are some very high-potential reads in my near future.

Listening:
Clearly the audiobook game was strong this month. Which is surprising, since the weather continued to be gross and I am not walking as much. But I did score some good crochet time.

Watching:
The Olympics. That’s it. For 2 weeks, the Olympics dominated and then they went away and I am sad. Good thing I know of several skating-oriented shows and movies I can watch now!

On the Blog:
It was a busy month on the blog, and with garden season just starting, I anticipate a greater variety of posts to come. While the month-long focus was the FJIG Collective {Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, and Week 4}, we also talked books. From an ambitious Cozy Mystery Bingo challenge to books about skating, the TBR list is growing exponentially. There was snow and cozy dessert, and somehow we made it through another cold month.

January tends to feel long, but February flies. Those missing 2 days pack quite a punch apparently. The darkest Winter is past, daylight is stretching farther, and you can feel the energy starting to increase. The natural world is *thisclose* to busting open in a riot of growth and life.

What was your favorite read of February?
Did you watch the Olympics?
As the seasons begin shifting, have you noticed your reading shift?
What are you most looking forward to in March?

  1. I didn’t watch the Olympics per se, but I can see watching clips on youtube when I’m in a mood. Recently I’ve been watching horse videos as “research” for some characters who ride. (That, and funny MLB moments to get ready for opening day. :D)

It’s hard to pick a February favorite….I binged on a CJ Box series and bolded (five-starred) Treasure State from within it, but I think I’d probably name With Malice Toward None as my favorite in general.

I’m more of a mood reader than a seasonal reader, but there are certain months that I’ll do dedicated challenges for — March gets a lot of baseball, April is devoted to English lit and English history, etc.

    • Horse video “research” sounds fun! 😀

When you’ve read so many good books that it’s hard to pick a favorite, that’s a win. Also gotta count binging an author/series as a win as well.

Mood reading is definitely a way of life. But I like the way you shift a focus with the baseball and etc. It’s a nice way to blend seasonal reading with mood reading a little 🙂

  2. Seven reads is fantastic and I’m glad you enjoyed them all over all. Its a shame Anne Of A Different Island wasnt as good as you hoped but I’m glad you still had fun with it. I look forward to seeing what high potential reads you have coming up.

We’ve had more sun lately which has been lovely, although I’m not going to officially call it a change of season as last week it went from sub to tipping rain overnight. I’m hoping its improving though 🤞

I hope you have a lovely March and get to watch some of the skating shows you hope to.

    • I’m not holding my breath for the full seasonal shift yet either, we’ve got another month+ for frost chances. But we are starting to get more things in the garden and making those plans. 😀

I do try to find something good about all the books I finish {I will straight up bail on the ones I won’t be able to, LOL!}, and some of the times I think it’s me and not the book.

Here’s to a lovely March for both of us, with lots of sunshine and great books 😀 ❤
