August Feasts

We have been eating well this Summer, leaning heavily on what our garden can provide, and August was another month of delicious and flavorful feasting. With some fun “extras” in the mix as well. Scroll on, but be warned: you might end up hungry!

We started the month off right: Waffle cones of ice cream!
Mr got blueberry; I got butter pecan.

This has been the Summer of pasta, and I am savoring every bite. I will be so sad to see the end of fresh pesto, but I keep reminding myself: Fall foods are coming!

Cherry tomato pasta, made with the Blondkopfchens.
Pesto forever! {Or you know, once a week}.
Pasta salad, to mix things up a little.

August also featured a lot of fun sandwiches. When it’s too hot to cook, you get creative. And some of these have turned out fabulously!

Snagged focaccia from a local bakery, and we made
Italian sandwiches, complete with pesto and burrata.
Rotisserie chicken-bacon-cheese with grilled onions.
OK, so Chick-fil-A made this one:
The new Chicken & Waffles sandwich is delicious!

From sandwiches to baked goods: We were able to squeeze in a visit to our favorite local-ish bakery. Everything is made fresh in-house, and with cases this loaded it’s always so hard to choose!

Almond Nest
Pan aux Raisin
We were inspired to try making our own:
Cream Cheese “Danish” deliciousness.
In my ongoing quest to master fresh-milled flour:
The first loaf of Einkorn bread was made.
Channeling Fall vibes with homemade onion soup
and brie toast on Einkorn bread.

There were a few girlfriend outings as well in August, and of course we had to include good food to pair with the excellent company and conversation.

This Dill Cucumber Salad croissant was amazing.
Perfect lunch for Throne of Glass book club discussions.
Kale-Berry Salad for a “sister date” with the cutest baby sidekick.

I did warn you this post is likely to make you hungry, and we’re not quite done yet!

We love Poppy popcorn, and had to try this seasonal flavor.
I wanted more coffee, but the caramel is good.
Pizza is always a good idea, especially after finishing
a busy day of projects around the house.
We finished the month with another ice cream run:
Mr got Karamel Krunch; I got Pralines ‘n’ Cream.

As the Summer garden continues to slow down, our flavors will be shifting and changing with the seasons. Although this week they’re forecasting more upper90s {why????}, which makes it hard to think about soups and other cozy things.

What was your favorite bite of Summer?
What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
Have you ever worked with puff pastry?
What Fall flavors are you looking forward to?

  1. That all looks so delicious, Rebecca. We are going to have a warming trend this week here too 😦 90’s all the way. Even so, I’m thinking ahead to my fall soups! I froze some corn and some beans in anticipation of corn chowder and veggie soup! My new favorite ice cream flavor is Perry’s coffee and donuts! I grew up on Perry’s ice cream as it is based near Buffalo, NY, not too far from where I lived. It was a regional staple. I was thrilled to see it made its way into Ohio!

  2. Everything looks amazing! My favorite bite of summer was a vine ripened tomatoe, which was a gift from my niece. My favorite ice cream is just plain vanilla – but a good brand with all read ingredients. Or homemade is even better. I’m looking forward to acorn squash!
