The egg stand

In yesterday’s post, I made reference to balancing eggs on end during the equinox. It’s something I remember doing as a kid, thinking it was the coolest. So last night, I decided to give it a whirl.

According to Google, there is no real science to support the equinox-specificity of balancing eggs, and some results labelled it merely an urban legend. Urban legend, old wives’ tale, folklore, what-have-you … we only ever attempted this on vernal and autumnal equinoxes growing up. I even tried to stand the eggs on end earlier in the evening, and they would not balance. However, when I tried again, closer to the official point of equinox, they both balanced.

Having officially welcomed the changing of the seasons, today is hovering in the 58-60* range and it’s breezy and wet. Total hibernation weather, the perfect start to Fall!

  1. How odd that you tried it earlier in the evening and it wouldn’t work. I’m going to have to see what happens next time I have an egg out if I try to balance it…probably a mess when it rolls off the counter 😂
